Welcome to Bob Schermer's Page

Bob Schermer

Three years ago, I road in my first Tour de Pink West Coast Cycling event, riding 200 hundred miles over three days. While the preparation for this ride and the ride itself is very self-rewarding, it is more about the cause. So this October, I will ride again, more determined than ever to join in the fight against breast cancer with the Young Survivor Coalition.

Our team of three people from three years ago has grown to 18 and still growing. Over half of our team are young breast cancer survivors. All of these young women ride to celebrate the gift of life, to support the young women that are currently in the battle against breast cancer and to celebrate those that unfortunately lost their battle to cancer. Being part of this event and this organization has been a life changing experience for me and I have seen first-hand what it does for the many survivors that ride.

Cancer can be a very isolating disease, and especially so, for young woman who may still be finishing their education, starting a career, and building her romantic and family life. As many of you know, my daughter Kristina was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 26. She faced many of the uncertainties that comes with this horrible disease Then she found YSC. YSC’s supportive services include: in-person support groups around the country, online video support groups, one-on-one peer mentoring, creation and distribution of free educational materials for survivors, co-survivors and healthcare providers, a training program for survivors to amplify the need for expanded research and advocacy, and an annual conference called the YSC Summit.

Please consider making a donation. How will your donation help?

$25 could fund YSC materials at three healthcare providers’ offices.
$100 could provide a Newly Diagnosed Navigator to six women when they need it most.
$250 could allow us to train four survivors to serve as a peer supporters.
$500 could fund a survivor advocate in our RISE training program
$1,200 could pay for two young women to travel to the YSC Summit, an annual conference for young women affected by breast cancer and their co-survivors.

Any amount helps!

Thank you in advance for your support. I truly appreciate your generosity.
