Riding for Diane

Hayley Wilcox

Hayley Wilcox

I never knew anyone who shined as bright as my mom, Diane. She was the kindest, most positive, caring person. She made anyone feel loved. She taught me and my siblings the life lessons of working hard, being kind to everyone, kind to ourselves, and loving as hard as you can.

My mom was first diagnosed with breast caner in 2008 at 49 years old. After 10 years of being in remission, her doctor said she was in the clear. Life went on. In March 2021, we found out that her breast cancer metastasized. The trials of the pandemic covered it up and it was misdiagnosed as a bulging disk prior. Scotty, Jessica and I were there the whole time taking care of her. We are so incredibly grateful that we could be there by her side the whole time. June 2, 2021 our mama lost her fight to breast cancer. Still in disbelief, I just wish we had more time together. I carry her with me everyday and choose to celebrate her.

At 3 years old, my mom taught us how to bike. We'd bike all over Switzerland when we were 6 years old. At 45 years old, my mom rode all of the French country side as she was reintroduced to herself post-divorce. Riding has always been a healing space in our family.

I will cherish our memories and know that I will always have her unconditional love. I am grateful I can ride for my mama, celebrate her, and make her proud. I know she'll be looking over us while we ride.

Jessica and I are riding in the YSC Tour de Pink Lisa J. Frank Memorial Ride this year to raise funds to support them through the Young Survival Coalition (YSC).
I hope I can count on you to help me reach my fundraising goal. Any amount helps!

YSC is the largest nonprofit dedicated exclusively to young adults diagnosed with breast cancer age 40 and under and their co-survivor support networks. Through educational resources and programming, annual conferences, and local and online support networks, YSC ensures no young adult faces breast cancer alone. For more information, visit youngsurvival.org.

Thank you in advance for your support. I truly appreciate your generosity.
